Day 1: Oxfordshire 329-9, Cheshire 18-1

25 Jul 2021

Cheshire closed day one of their three day Western Division 1 Championship game with Oxfordshire on 18-1 chasing Oxfordshire's first innings 329-9, by 311 runs.

Winning the toss and batting first, the hosts slipped to 166-6 before a 102 run seventh wicket partnership between George Tait (50) and Gareth Andrew (73) turned things round. There were solid contributions from Tom Cosford (39), Matt Warner (31) and Harry Smith (42) too.

Chris Sanders took 3-32 while fellow pacemen Ben Gibbon and Mike Finan also impressed for little reward.

Spinners David Wainwright and Stephen Green - on his championship debut - took 3-77 and 2-86 respectively, the pair bowling exactly half the 90 overs between them.

Cheshire lost Tim Hughes early when he chopped one on but Calum Rowe and Sam Perry saw them through to 18-1 when play was halted for bad light half an hour early.

Day 2 (Monday) starts at 10.30am.

Bonus points: Oxfordshir 4, Cheshire 4
