Durant Western Division Championship (Division 1); Devon 423-9 (90 overs), Cheshire 19-3 (9 overs). Cheshire trail by 404 runs
Herefordshire v Berkshire scorecard & video highlights
Cheshire were left stunned at the end of day one of their crucial Division 1 Championship match with Devon, closing on 18-3 after the visitors had amassed 423-9.
Star of the show was Devon opener James Horler with a chanceless 165 on a typical flat Boughton Hall track. Good support too from Ben Privett (43) and Elliot Hamilton (43) as the Cheshire bowlers toiled. Pick of the bunch was Steve Green who bagged 5-99.
Early rain had delayed the start of play an hour, influencing Cheshire skipper Dave Wainwright to opt for a bowl.
But things went downhill quickly as the opening pair blasted 71 and at 200-2, it was clear that Devon were posting a big total.
Closing on 423-9 from 90 overs, Cheshire imploded in the final 45 minutes of the day. Facing nine overs they lost three wickets to Kaz Szymanski (3-11).
Ali Chughtai was first to go followed by Henry Dobson and Joe Cooke. Wainwright then fended off the last three overs with Sam Perry holding firm at the other end, unbeaten on 10.
Cheshire closed on 19-3 - 404 runs behind - and face an uphill task on day two which gets underway at 10.30 on Tuesday morning.
Today's scores at Chester and at Eastnor (Herefordshire v Berkshire) leave Division 1 interestingly poised.
