Cheshire 370-7 (50 overs), Wales NC 272 (46.3 overs). Cheshire won by 98 runs
Scorecard & video highlights Match stream Group 4 Table NCCA Match Centre
Highlights: Sam Perry 176, George Lavelle 100, Max Law 5-75 (Cheshire), Cian Davies 108, Sami Khan 70, Tom Norton 3-71 (Wales NC).
Things are hotting up in Group 4 of the NCCA KO Trophy as Cheshire's win over Wales National Counties puts them into second place with one game to go - against unbeaten leaders, Dorset.
Dorset lead the group with six points from their three wins, with Cheshire in second place on four. Hertfordshire and Wiltshire play next week with both on two points and if Cheshire fail to win, run rate will come into the reckoning. Cheshire's poor rate following the disastrous opening game at Hitchin would need a significant swing to turn things round. A Cheshire win would likely see an away quarter final with Berkshire.
There were two changes to the Cheshire side from last week's win at Wiltshire with returns for leg-spinner Jack Williams and Geroge Valentine, replacing Steve Green and Mike Finan respectively.
Sam Perry won the toss at sun-kissed Toft and batting first, led the way with an outstanding 176. His assured and level headed approach included 17 fours and 5 sixes and is the second highest individual score in the competition for Cheshire after Will Evans 183. The third wicket partnership with George Lavelle of 224 is a new record bettering Hignett and Hall's 145 set in 2001.
George Lavelle at four showed his class too with a fine 100 as the Welsh bowlers tolied in the heat. Tom Norton was the pick with 3-71.
Chasing 370 was always going to be a tall order and the task got tougher as the visitors were reduced to 23-3.
Cian Davies made a cool 108 as he and Sami Khan (70) put on 138 for the fifth wicket but in steadying the innings, overs were being used up. And when Khan went in the 41st over, the writing was on the wall.
Max Law came of age in his third outing for Cheshire with 5-75 to become only the seventh '5 fer' for Cheshire in the competition. There were a couple of wickets each too for Williams and Valentine.
Two wins from three for Cheshire and all to play for at Didsbury against Dorset next week (Sunday 18 May).
