Checkley washout for Cheshire

Checkley washout for Cheshire

28 Apr 2024

No joy for Cheshire in the first round of T20 games for 2024.

After both games at Checkley against Staffordshire were washed out, it's already beginging to feel like 2023 when the County were thwarted by poor weather.

With the double header games originally due to be played at Knypersley, Staffordshire managed to switch to Checkley at short notice after the original ground was deemed unfit.

Sadly, despite great efforts by the groundstaff, an unfit outfield saw the first game called off shortly before th esheduled 11am start time and the second abandoned just after 2pm.

The other games in Cheshire's group between Northumberland and Cumbria at South Northumberland suffered a similar fate.

Group 1 stats

It's back to action next weekend when Cheshire host Cumbria at Toft on Sunday 5 May and Northumberland at Oxton a day later on Bank Holiday Monday.

Footnote: Cheshire and Staffordshire traditionally contest the Bailey/Gill Trophy at this fixture. With the games abandoned, Staffordshire retain the trophy won last year at Nantwich.
