Cheshire at the double 'usher' in T20 Super 12s

Game 1: Northumberland 133-7 (20 overs) Cheshire 134-9 (19.

<a href="https://cheshireccc.

Game 2:Cheshire 182-7 (20 overs), Northumberland 158-9 (20 overs).

<a href="https://cheshireccc.

<a href="https://ncca.

Cheshire produced a day to remember at South Northumberland CC, winning two gripping contests to leapfrog Northumberland and snatch a place in the NCCA T20 Super 12s.

With qualification hanging in the balance, Harry Dearden's side rose to the occasion magnificently, delivering two outstanding performances packed with nerve, resilience and individual brilliance.

The first game was a nail-biting thriller that went right down to the penultimate ball.

Runs were hard to come by throughout.

The chase proved every bit as difficult.

An early collapse left Cheshire reeling at 4-2 before wickets continued to tumble.

Still, Cheshire needed something special.

With the pressure at its absolute peak, Brooks delivered exactly that, launching an enormous six from the penultimate delivery to complete one of the most dramatic victories of the season.

That result turned the second match into a straight shoot-out for qualification – winner takes all.

Once again, Cheshire answered the call.

After winning the toss and batting first, they recovered from another slow start at 22-2 to post an imposing 182-7.

Henry Murray added a valuable 19, while Selby again finished unbeaten with an important 18 as Cheshire closed with what looked a highly competitive total, having threatened to push beyond 200.

Northumberland's reply never quite gathered sustained momentum.

Chris Youlden threatened to swing the game back in the hosts' favour before Andy Jackson struck a decisive blow, having him caught by Brooks for 33.

It completed a remarkable day's work and secured Cheshire's place in the Super 12s in emphatic fashion.

The two debutants slotted seamlessly into the side, while Cheshire's catching and ground fielding reached another level, producing a performance full of energy, intensity and composure at exactly the right time.

Attention now turns to the NCCA KO Trophy Final in two weeks' time (v Berkshire), with confidence soaring after one of Cheshire's finest T20 days in recent years.

The Super 12s will see the four group winners each host a qualifying day on 9 August.

Cheshire: Harry Dearden (captain - Woodbank), Sam Perry (Alderley Edge), Gennaro Reddy (Alderley Edge), Alfie Usher (Alderley Edge), Henry Murray (Toft), Freddie Vaughan-Hawkins (wk - Timperley), Andy Jackson (Hyde), Xavier Selby (Woodbank), Will Espley (Lindow), Isaac Brooks (Lindow), Jack Collett (Sandbach), 12th man - Liam Clorely (Toft)

T20 decider in Newcastle this Sunday (5 July)

Cheshire travel to Newcastle this Sunday for a T20 double header Group 1 'decider' with Northumberland.

It's a simple equation: Cheshire need to win both games to finish third in the group and reach the 'Super 12s'.

At that stage of the competition, two sides 'play off' on Sunday 9 August and then play a designated group winner.

The games with Northumberland are at the excellently appointed South Northumberland ground - the first at 11am and the second c 2.

Refreshments available throughout the door.

Jackson's record spell fires Cheshire into KO Trophy Final

(Photo: Hyde's Andy Jackson at Keswick CC)

KO Trophy Group Semi-Final, Keswick CC

Cheshire 177 (45.

<a href="https://cheshireccc.

Jackson's Record Spell Fires Cheshire Into KO Trophy Final

Andy Jackson produced a bowling performance for the ages as Cheshire swept into the NCCA KO Trophy Final with a superb 27-run victory over Cumbria at Keswick.

The Hyde seamer delivered one of the finest spells in Cheshire history, returning extraordinary figures of 10-8-3-5 to dismantle the visitors and book a showdown with Berkshire at Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club on Sunday 19 July.

It was sweet revenge for Cheshire, who had been beaten by Cumbria on the same ground just a month earlier, and keeps alive hopes of lifting the KO Trophy for a fifth time after previous triumphs in 1983, 1987, 1996 and 2018.

On a slow, rain-affected surface that offered plenty for the bowlers, runs proved extremely difficult to come by after overnight rain reduced the contest to 46 overs per side.

Captain Sam Perry once again led from the front.

His dismissal as the seventh wicket fell on 138 threatened to expose the tail, but Will Valentine added a valuable 22 to help Cheshire squeeze every possible run from a demanding surface.

Cumbria's experienced attack rarely allowed the scoring rate to climb.

If Perry laid the platform, Jackson then stole the show.

His impact was immediate, removing the dangerous Freddie Fallows with just the second ball of the innings, caught smartly in the covers.

Then came the decisive burst.

Jackson struck twice in successive deliveries during his fifth over, dismissing Callum Rowe and Ben Walkden to leave Cumbria reeling at 22-3.

Cumbria refused to surrender.

Matt Sempill counter-attacked with 41, Max Winskill added 33, and Ed Wade's determined 23 threatened to swing the contest back the hosts' way.

However, Cheshire's supporting attack ensured there would be no dramatic comeback.

Captain Perry praised both the performance and the composure shown by his side.

"It was an outstanding performance on a tricky, slow track," he said.

"It was tough going against Slack and Walkden.

"We lost the final a couple of years ago and we know how strong Berkshire will be, but we'll go into the final full of confidence.

Cheshire: Sam Perry (capt, Alderley Edge), Dan Newton (Lindow), Henry Murray (Toft), Freddie Vaughan-Hawkins (wk, Timperley), Henry Dobson (Woodbank), Will Street (Didsbury), Isaac Brooks (Lindow), Andy Jackson (Hyde), Gennaro Reddy (Alderley Edge), Will Valentine (Alderley Edge), 12th man: Liam Clorley (Toft).

Cheshire play Cumbria for the second week running, and the third time this season, when they travel to Keswick this Sunday (11am, 26 June).

The winner of the game will take on Berkshire or Oxfordshire who face off at Wargrave CC and the final will be at Ipswich & Copdock CC on 19 July.

Sam Perry's side know Keswick well having been defeated on a soggy Sunday last month in the group stages of the competition.

With Cheshire finishing runner-up in Group 1 (to Cumbria) they were destined for an away quarter final (duly won against Norfolk) and then an away semi.

Parking is limited at Keswick.

Dashing Ashling gives Cheshire T20 hope

Game 1: Cumbria 171-6 (20 overs) Cheshire 139-9 (20 overs), Cumbria won by 32 runs

<a href="https://ncca.

Game 2:Cheshire 196-7 (20 overs), Cumbria 190-5(20 overs).

<a href="https://ncca.

<a href="https://ncca.

Cheshire kept their NCCA T20 Super 12 hopes alive with a dramatic fightback against Cumbria at Nantwich, bouncing back from defeat in the day's opener to win the second match by six runs.

After a frustrating first game, Cheshire responded in style, inspired by a stunning return from Pat Ashling, who marked his first county appearance in two years with a brilliant 102.

With one double-header left - against Northumberland in two weeks - Cheshire now know that winning both games would send them through to the next stage.

It had been a testing build-up for the county, with injuries continuing into Saturday afternoon and several players unavailable.

In bright sunshine and with Nantwich looking immaculate, Cheshire were left to rue missed chances in the first contest.

Cheshire's chase quickly faltered as they slumped to 78-6.

The response in the second game was immediate.

Cheshire struck instantly when Dan Wilson removed Fallows with the very first ball of the innings, but Cumbria appeared to be cruising thanks to a superb 121-run second-wicket stand between Tom Fraine (97) and Wade (46).

But Cheshire found another gear at exactly the right moment.

It was a victory built on resilience, big-match contributions and a refusal to let their campaign drift away.

Next up, it's the same opposition, different tournament.

Cheshire squad: Sam Perry (captain, Alderley Edge), Freddie Vaughan-Hawkins (wk, Timperley), Dan Newton (Lindow), Henry Murray (Toft), Pat Ashling (Alderley Edge), Isaac Brooks (Lindow), Dan Wilson (Northern), Will Espley (Lindow), Archie Barraclough (Bradford & Bingley), Alfie Usher (Alderley Edge), Zach Thompson (Timperley), Andy Jackson (Hyde).

Double trouble at Burslem despite Perry ton

Photo: Skipper Harry Dearden and century-maker, Sam Perry

Game 1: Cheshire 143-9 (20 overs), Staffordshire 147-4 (18.

<a href="https://cheshireccc.

Game 2: Staffordshire 190-3 (20 overs), Cheshire 173-9 (20 overs) Shropshire won by 8 wickets

<a href="https://cheshireccc.

<a href="https://ncca.

Cheshire remain fourth in the NCCA T20 Group 1 table and face a battle to reach the Super 12s, with two crucial double headers still to come against Cumbria and Northumberland.

While Sunday's twin defeats at Staffordshire's Burslem CC left Harry Dearden's side with work to do, there were encouraging signs, particularly in the second game, which produced an exhilarating chase and a century from Sam Perry.

Set a daunting 191 to win after Staffordshire piled up 190-3, powered by Dan Lincoln's 75 and James Kettleborough's unbeaten 72, Cheshire looked out of contention for long periods before launching a challenging fightback.

Perry was at the heart of the recovery, striking a superb hundred and sharing a 77-run partnership for the third wicket with Freddie Vaughan-Hawkins, who contributed an excellent 43.

With three overs remaining, the visitors were still firmly in the hunt, but Staffordshire's experienced attack held their nerve.

The earlier game had been a more frustrating affair.

Staffordshire then eased to a six-wicket victory, Nils Priestley making 48 and Kettleborough finishing unbeaten on 45 as the hosts comfortably chased down their target.

Attention now turns to a huge fortnight for Cheshire.

As is recent tradition, the sides competed for the Bailey Gill Plate in the second game.

Cheshire squad: Harry Dearden (capt - Woodbank), Sam Perry (Alderley Edge), Dan Newton (Lindow), Henry Murray (Toft), Freddie Vaughan-Hawkins (wk - Timperley), Matt Strong (Neston), Andy Jackson (Hyde), Xavier Selby (Woodbank), Alex Young (Didsbury), Will Valentine (Alderley Edge), Kevin Carroll (Brooklands), Isaac Brooks (Lindow).

Back to the T20s in Staffordshire this Sunday (14 June)

Cheshire resume their NCCA T20 campaign this Sunday (14 June) with a double-header against Staffordshire at Burslem CC.

After sharing the spoils with Shropshire in their opening Group 1 fixtures at Didsbury, Harry Dearden's side head to the Potteries looking to strengthen their push for a place in Finals Day.

Cheshire showed both sides of their T20 game in the opening round.

Confidence will be high, however, following last Sunday's impressive KO Trophy quarter-final success over Norfolk.

Now attention switches back to the shortest format, where every point could prove crucial in the race for qualification.

Staffordshire will provide another stern test, but Cheshire travel with momentum, confidence and plenty of belief as they look to continue an encouraging start to the summer.

The first game is at 11am, it's free to get in and refreshments are available all day.

The second game will see the sides compete for the 'Bailey Gill' Trophy - one of the quirks of a Cheshire/Staffordshire clash.

Established in 2017, Cheshire President David Bailey and old Staffordshire foe Peter Gill agreed any game between the two sides (one selected if a T20 double header), should be contested for the trophy.

Staffordshire are the current holders following victory at Nantwich last year.

Dearden & Carroll rescue act fires Cheshire into KO Trophy semis

(Photo: Oxton's Jack Corrin)

KO Trophy Group 1, Sprowston CC

Cheshire 261-7 (49.

<a href="https://ncca.

Cheshire booked their place in the 2026 KO Trophy semi-finals with a commanding 58-run victory over Norfolk at Sprowston CC, overcoming early adversity before producing a performance full of character and resilience.

Making their first visit to the impressive Norwich venue, Cheshire arrived with a reshuffled side.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Cheshire quickly found themselves in trouble.

Norfolk's bowlers struck regularly, never allowing the visitors to settle.

What followed transformed the match.

Harry Dearden and Kevin Carroll came together amid the chaos and produced an innings-defining partnership of 118 for the seventh wicket.

As their confidence grew, so did the scoring rate.

The Norfolk attack, so dominant in the opening stages, suddenly found itself under pressure as Dearden and Carroll took control.

By the time Dearden departed for a superb 69 and Carroll followed for an equally valuable 77, the complexion of the game had been completely altered.

With runs on the board, Cheshire's bowlers seized the initiative.

Henry Dobson, Corrin and Will Valentine applied the early squeeze, keeping Norfolk behind the required rate and forcing the hosts to take risks.

Norfolk never managed to build the momentum required to threaten the target.

Corrin led the attack with an outstanding 3-35, while Brooks claimed 2-33 as the hosts closed on 203-7, 58 runs short of their target.

The victory capped a hugely satisfying week for Cheshire, who showed tremendous character after a demanding schedule and a gruelling cross-country trip the previous evening.

Attention now turns to the semi-finals, where Cheshire will once again travel to Cumbria.

A special thank you goes to Mike Hanby, Chair of Norfolk CCC, and everyone at Sprowston CC for their outstanding hospitality and for creating a superb atmosphere.

Cheshire: Sam Perry (Alderley Edge, captain), Dan Newton (Lindow), Henry Dobson (Oxton), Matt Strong (Neston), Henry Murray (Toft, wk), Jack Corrin (Oxton), Harry Dearden (Woodbank), Will Valentine (Alderley Edge), Kevin Carroll (Brooklands), Isaac Brooks (Lindow), Will Street (Didsbury).

Cheshire and Shropshire shared the spoils in their first Group 1 T20 double header at sun-kissed Didsbury.

Harry Dearden's squad saw the return of Andy Dufty, replacing Andy Jackson in the second game.

Both sides won batting second, by.

First up Shropshire mustered 160-6, recovering after a slow start.

As it was, Gennaro Reddy (76) and Dan Newton (35) then took the game by the scruff of the neck, blasting 91 for the first wicket before Kevin Carroll - back to his old self - hit a swift 45 to see Cheshire over the line.

A more mundane performance followed in the second game as a flat Cheshire slipped to 70-7 and struggled to muster 120 with Dan Newton (37), Xander Selby (25) and Dufty (18) adding valuable late runs.

Then it was Shropshire's turn to flex their mucles as they passed Cheshire's total in the sixteenth over, with Joseph Johnson (52*) and Andre Bradford (36) leading the way.

Next up for Cheshire it's a 50 over KO Trophy tie in Norwich on 7 June before returning to T20 action against Staffordshire at Burslem on 14 June.

In the other Group 1 game, Staffordshire beat Northumberland with a game tied.

A special thanks to Duncan Anderson and the Didsbury team for hosting us so magnificently.
