CHESHIRE have been boosted by the signing of former Derbyshire batsman Chris Bassano.

Bassano, who plays for defending champions Oulton Park in The Right Move Abroad Cheshire County League, joins the side ahead of their next Minor Counties clash, away to Berkshire from 24-26 June.

The former first-class player's selection is the only change to the Cheshire side which hammered Minor Counties holders Devon at Chester Boughton Hall less than a fortnight ago.

Bramhall batsman Nick Cantello makes way for Bassano, as Cheshire look to extend their impressive unbeaten start to the season.

"We've had a great start to the season, but we must push on from here. Berkshire are a very strong side, but hopefully we can our winning run going," predicted Cheshire team manager Sandy Scrimgeour.

"Chris has first-class experience behind him, which should be good for the side. He's played at a very high level and I hope he does very well for us."

A view echoed by Cheshire skipper Andy Hall whom, having set a new Cheshire batting record with Danny Leech against Devon, is understandably full of confidence ahead of his county's second Western Division match.

"We've not lost a game yet this season and we're playing well as a team. We've got to keep our run going for as long as possible," said Hall.

"Chris is a very good player and with Natham Dumelow and Ben Spendlove (both former Derbyshire) in the side, we've lots of experience, which I hope will rub off on the younger players and help them improve."

Hall added: "We've had some really good matches with Berkshire the last few years, but we know there's no easy games and they are one of the better counties.

"Beating Devon was a great confidence-booster for the season, but we can't rest on that win and another win would put us a step closer winning the Division again this year."

Hyde youngsters Tom Youngs and Danny Woods are again given the chance to impress with the ball, as is Neston's Chris Finegan and with Bowdon's Adam Syddall, who took six second-innings wickets in the Devon win and off-spinner Dumelow, Hall has plenty of bowling options .
