CHESHIRE 'A' v YORKSHIRE ACADEMY at Birkenhead Park CC on 14/15 June
Cheshire came within
a whisker of upsetting the Yorkshire Academy but the loss of five
quick wickets in a frantic run-chase eventually halted Andy Newton's
side's hopes of a victory.
After Yorkshire had scored 200-6 rain restricted Cheshire to 84-3 overnight. Quick runs the following morning in only 11 overs from Mark Debrabender (47) and Nafees Din (44) helped Cheshire declare on 162-6. Yorkshire extended their lead to 203 before declaring on 165-6 to leave Cheshire needing 204 for victory in 42 overs.
It was always going to be a tough ask, but Cheshire got out of the traps firing on full cylinders and Chris Davies and Alan Day scored 106 for the first wicket, until the latter was dismissed for 40.
All-rounder Day went on to make 86 until at 164-2, when Din (19 not out) departed with a groin-injury, Cheshire's chances of victory vanished.
The home county then lost five wickets for just 21 runs and closed on 185-7, 20 runs short of a win, settling for a draw.
