A win and defeat in the weekend's T20 double header at Marple sees Cheshire battling it out with Staffordshire for the right to reach T20 finals day in August.

Cheshire now face two games with Lincolnshire on 17 June while Staffordshire go to Cumberland. If an outright winner can't be decided, it'll come down to net run rate.

Rick Moore was forced to field an inexperienced side with a number of key players unavailable.

"It was a great opportunity to blood some new players," he said. "And I was pretty pleased with the day. We're in a great position to push on and qualify".

Cheshire lost the first match on a difficult pitch, mustering just 95-9, Oulton Park's Martyn East hitting 39. Northumberland handled the conditions better as they got by with three overs to spare with the loss of three wickets.

But Cheshire fought back second time round as they posted 135-3, Moore making 34, Jamie Crawley an unbeaten 30, East again with 27 and Wayne White with 29.

The bowlers then upped the ante with Mark Bennett grabbing 2-28. Runs were at a premium with Ash Davis' four overs going for just six as Cheshire got home by 14 runs.

Next up for Cheshire it's back to 50 over action as they face Lincolnshire at Chester in the KO Trophy quarter finals (10 June) before travelling to Lincolnshire for the T20 showdown a week later.
