Cheshire 219-7 (50 overs), Cumberland 216-9 (50 overs).
Cheshire won by 3 runs.

Cheshire booked a quarter final date with Lincolnshire at Chester as they narrowly overcame Cumberland at Oxton.

Winning the toss and batting first on a slow pitch, Cheshire found the going tough in an enthralling game of cricket with Cumberland.

Having already defeated the Cumbrians twice this year in the T20 format, they made it a hat-trick of wins, but only just.

Skipper Rick Moore confidently struck an unbeaten 81 in a stumbling Cheshire innings, as the side struggled to build on a promising start.

Well supported by Wayne White's 49, 219-7 received a mix reception as ex-Cheshire quickie, Adam Syddall grabbed 2-29.

And with Cumberland reaching 77 without loss, Cheshire were struggling for the breakthrough as Matt Semphill hit 62. But canny bowling from Dixon (4-40) and Simon Normanton (1-36) applied the mid innings brakes.

Cumberland were in the hunt until the last though before Jack White swooped to take 2-36 and push his side over the line.

"That was touch and go," admitted a relieved Moore. "We lost our way a bit in the middle of our innings but it was a tricky pitch at times and we fought back well. "We're now look forward to an exciting home draw."

After a switch back to T20 in a fortnight, Cheshire will now play Lincolnshire at Chester Boughton Hall on Sunday 10 June.
