12 wickets for Williams as Jack accounts for Wiltshire

Unicorns Championship - Western Division
Sunday - Tuesday 30 July - 1 August 2017, Devizes CC
Cheshire 197 & 159, Wiltshire 118 & 164.
Cheshire won by 74 runs.

Jack Williams took 7-47 and 5-53, with match figures of 12-100 to see off Wiltshire as Cheshire cemented second place in the Unicorns Western Division table with a 74 run win at Devizes.

The popular young leg spinner signed off his Cheshire season before starting work as an accountant with an outstanding performance to seal victory after Calum Rowe had scored 92 to set up the win.

On a difficult pitch with bad weather playing a key role, the win means although Cheshire can't catch table toppers Berkshire, they go into their final game with Oxfordshire at Chester in a strong position.

Cheshire skipper Lee Dixon was delighted with the commitment his side showed in a low scoring game having been asked to bat first. They stuck to their task throughout to force a final day win.

"Jack is off to be an accountant but certainly got his numbers right here," said a beaming skipper.

"We played the better cricket throughout and again showed our strength in depth as everybody chipped in to force the result.

"We've had some tricky games over the years with Wiltshire but our application was first class and it was an enjoyable trip.

"The first morning was particularly important and Danny Leech and Calum Rowe taking us into lunch without losing a wicket set things up for us as it was as difficult a pitch as we've played on all season.

"Dixon also singled out Luke Robinson who batted on with a hand injury to help avert an awkward situation on the third morning and hit a quickfire 35 to take the game away from the hosts.

"It was an important knock as he and Harry Killoran added 43 for the ninth wicket to set Wiltshire 239 to win."

Berkshire take the title but Cheshire can be pleased with the progress in a season that will see them finish runners-up if they can overcome Oxfordshire in their final game at Chester in two weeks.
