IAN COWAP 10.6.1950 - 10.2.2016

The death has occurred of former Cheshire CCC cricketer Ian Cowap.

Ian was born in Nantwich on June 10, 1950 and was educated at Nantwich Grammar School.

The all-rounder began his cricket career with Nantwich before playing as a Professional for Bradshaw in the Bolton League 1975-76. He later became Professional for Betley in the North Staffs and South Cheshire League before returning to Nantwich for the rest of his career.

He played for the County Club from 1974 to 1983 and appeared in 60 Championship matches. His 99 innings as a right-handed bat produced 1477 runs with 6 50s, a highest score of 78 and an average of 16.97.

His right-arm Medium paced bowling won him 34 wickets at a cost of 1303 runs. His best performance was 3 for 27 and he had an average of 38.32. He also took 40 catches.

He was awarded his County Cap in 1975.

The funeral service will be held on Monday 29th February at St Mary's Parish Church, Nantwich at 1.30pm followed by a private cremation. After this, refreshments will be provided at Nantwich CC.
