Unicorns Championship - Western Division

Cheshire lose out to leaders
By Jim Law

Sunday - Tuesday 19-21 July 2015, St Austell CC
Cornwall CCC 240 & 299, Cheshire CCC 124 & 153. Cornwall won by 262 runs.
Cornwall 22 points, Cheshire 4 points.

Cheshire had a disappointing long trip to St Austell as they were well beaten by the current Western Division leaders.

Spinners ruled down by the sea and although skipper Danny Woods managed a match haul of 12-169, Cornwall were in control throughout having won a crucial toss.

Batting first the hosts made 240 in an innings that saw Woods take 6-55.

Cheshire's reply saw them fall 116 runs short on 124, Lee Dixon making 26 and Rick Moore 20.

In a weather disrupted match, Cornwall's second dig of 299 - with Woods' taking 6-114 and debutant Cheadle spinner Will Holmes, 4-76 - meant Cheshire required an unlikely 416 to win.

As it was they fell well short, Jimmy Warrington top scoring with 29.

It was disappointing for Woods whose side clearly had the worst of conditions but lost out to a strong side.

Cheshire are next in action at Alderley Edge where they take on Berkshire.
