1st v 3rd as Championship boils up
By Jim Law

Wiltshire v Cheshire, Unicorns Counties Championship - Western Division,
at South Wilts CC, Salisbury, Sun-Tues, 3, 4, 5 August 2014.

Things are hotting up at the top of the Unicorns Championship Western Division.

With two rounds of games to go, Cheshire sit third behind Wiltshire and Devon and face the leaders Wiltshire at Salisbury in a three day game from this Sunday.

And whilst Cheshire will need a major effort to retain their Championship won so successfully last year, two wins would put them in with an excellent shout.

Wiltshire have 80 points, Devon 68 and Cheshire 63. A maximum 24 points for Cheshire with Wiltshire scoring poorly and Devon slipping up against Shropshire would make all the difference before the last round of games.

James Duffy returns to captain the side which also sees Warren Goodwin back from injury.

Cheshire travel in good spirits after their win against Wales Minor Counties at Bowdon last week.

"It's good to be back'" remarked Duffy "and we're really looking forward to the game. It's the business end of the season and we don't want to let our title go with out a real scrap.

"The side has changed a lot this year and we've fielded a number of youngsters who've done us proud. Obviously we've three quality spinners (Woods, Williams and Killoran), Rick Moore's been on fire with the bat and Calum Rowe and Pat Roberts are really bedding in well."

Cheshire remain unbeaten in the Championship for over two years, last going down to Cornwall in July 2012.
