Cheshire reach quarter finals with convincing win

100s for Moore and Goodwin.
Sunday 18 May 2014: Cheshire 312-7 (50), Shropshire 185 (39.3 overs)
Cheshire won by 127 runs
Cheshire cruised into the quarter finals of the Unicorns KO Trophy with a convincing win over Shropshire at Oswestry.
Sparkling 100s from Ric Moore and Warren Goodwin formed the base of a big total that saw Shropshire fall 127 runs short. Nick Anderson and Goodwin were chief tormenters with the ball, taking three wickets apiece.
Cheshire are likely to meet either Oxfordshire or Herefordshire in the quarters; next week's final group game with Lincolnshire determining if they have home advantage.
James Duffy opted to bat first in a match that saw Neston's Will Evans make his Trophy debut and Oulton Park's Pat Roberts behind the stumps. Prolific opener Khalid Sawas was forced to withdraw through injury, Harry Killoran was unavailable.
After losing Evans early on, Goodwin and Moore shone, adding a match winning 161 for the second wicket. Both were impressive throughout, Goodwin's 106 including three sixes and 14 fours, whilst Moore showed his class with 18 fours. Contributions from Danny Berry (18) and 27 not out from Roberts set the hosts a challenging 6.24 an over.
The Shropshire reply stuttered from the off and despite 57 from Ed Foster and 68 from Omar Ali, they struggled against Anderson (3-36) - growing more confident by the game - and the miserly accuracy of Adam Sydall, taking 1-19 from seven overs. Goodwin capped a fine all round performance with three wickets for just one run from a couple of overs whilst it was good to see Berry back with the ball in his hand as he managed four overs.
Skipper James Duffy purred at the exciting display noting "This was a great performance. And when you remember we've the likes of Killoran, Sawas and (Jack) Williams in the wings too, it feels like we're in a really good place. The lads are champing at the bit for next week's table decider."
Cheshire face Lincolnshire at Bramhall next Sunday (25th) whilst Cumberland play Shropshire. A win for Duffy's men would mean a home draw at Chester Boughton Hall.
