Next stop Berkshire for the Cheshire juggernaut

MCCA 3 Day Championship: Berkshire v Cheshire CCC at Finchampstead CC, Sunday - Tuesday, July 21-23 2013

Danny Woods continues his Cheshire captaincy as he goes in search of a fourth consecutive victory when Cheshire travel to Finchampstead this weekend.

After the heroics of Dorset, Woods travels with the same side that won so well last time out, defeating their hosts by 71 runs. That win put Cheshire into joint second place in the Western Division Championship with three to play. First up is fourth placed Berkshire, 18 points behind Cheshire and Woods is relishing coming up against an old friend.

'Richard Logan (shown above) will be in the Berkshire side' says Woods 'and we know what he's capable of'. Logan had two successful seasons with Cheshire, in 2010 and 2011 and was a popular member of the dressing room. 'Naturally we'll both be looking to put one over the other on the field but afterwards it will be good to catch up'.

Berkshire come fresh from their semi-final victory over Northumberland in the KO Trophy but with confidence high, Woods' side doesn't fear anyone.

'We'll go quietly about our business,' Woods continued. 'We're improving all the time. Everybody has chipped in and the team spirit is phenomenal'.

One of those who certainly has 'chipped in' is Woods himself. In the three games to date (against Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Dorset), Woods match winning performances have seen him take 29 wickets. In the whole of 2012 he took 34 and his current Championship total for the side is 114 at an average of 19.47. Woods made his debut in 2006.

The 25 year old is having the season of his life, last weekend claiming a remarkable 10-46 for his club side, York too.

Cheshire make the trip south on Saturday night and then wrap up their Championship challenge with home games against Devon (at Bowdon) and Shropshire (at Nantwich).

Play starts each morning at 11.00am.
