One change as Cheshire face uphill task
MCCA KO Trophy: Cumberland CCC v Cheshire CCC at Kendal, Sunday May 19 2013
By Jim Law

Cheshire must rely on two victories from their final two games and a favourable permutation of other results to qualify for the latter stages of the 2013 MCCA KO Trophy.

With defeats against Herefordshire and Cambridgeshire, Cheshire face the 2012 Trophy winners at Kendal on Sunday with skipper James Duffy looking for improvement throughout the team.

'In truth we've not really clicked this season so far with either batting or bowling,' he commented. 'It's disappointing that we haven't kicked on from last year's good progress but I'm confident that we can still make a good account of ourselves in this competition.'

Whilst conceding that quarter final qualification was now 'unlikely', Duffy won't be drawn into wholesale changes yet but did fire a warning shot to his side. 'I'm looking for all round improvement', he said. 'Our batsmen need to show greater application and hunger and our bowlers rediscover their appetite. We've really not demonstrated our full potential to date which is disappointing when you consider the strength in depth within our squad. We've some good players knocking on the door and the pressure to perform is constant.'

Duffy makes just the one change with Oulton Park all-rounder Rick Moore (shown left) replacing Lee Dixon. 'Rick has good top order experience and adds another dimension to our bowling,' he explained.

Cumberland provide stiff opposition for Duffy's men having beaten Wiltshire in the 2012 MCCA Trophy Final. Their side is likely to include Lancashire Academy batsman Liam Livingstone who plays his cricket with Nantwich in the ECB Cheshire Premier League.

Late team change

Cheshire make a late team change for Sunday's match with Danny Cranmer coming in for the unavailable Danny Woods. The Hyde left arm spinner makes his full debut for the County in his comeback season, having missed most of 2012 with a broken wrist.
