Goodwin back for Cheshire in Cornwall clash

MCCA: Cornwall v Cheshire at Truro, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday July 22,23,24 2012

Warren Goodwin returns to play his first game of the season for Cheshire in their 3 day MCCA clash with Cornwall (Sunday – Tuesday, July 22-23).

The Chester Boughton Hall opening bat comes back into the side after an enforced absence from a hand injury. Goodwin, now back to his best for Chester, replaces the unavailable Rick Moore from the side that sat through a three day washout with Dorset at Alderley Edge.

Skipper James Duffy also welcomes back fellow Hyde team mate Scott Kirwin after injury and is delighted to have both players back in the fold.

"The weather, injuries and unavailability have meant a frustrating time for us to date," commented Duffy, "but with Warren and Scott fully recovered we can travel to Cornwall in good spirits".

Goodwin’s form with his bat since returning to League cricket five weeks ago has been impressive and will be a welcome addition to a batting line-up that also boasts Macclesfield's Khalid Sawas who has been outstanding in in his first year with the senior side. "Khalid has made a huge difference to the team this year", continued Duffy, "and continues to score runs wherever he plays. He is a quality stroke player and has quickly got to grips with the demands of the three day game".

Duffy's men make the long trek to Truro sitting eighth in the table with Cornwall riding high at the summit. However, with poor weather limiting the amount of cricket played this year, they are only 14 points adrift of the leaders.

The players will travel by coach to Cornwall and any spectators wishing to book a seat for the trip should contact Secretary, Derrick Hastings on 07989 114691.
