CHESHIRE 'A' v YORKSHIRE ACADEMY at Weetwood, Leeds 4 July
Cheshire suffered an agonising last-ball defeat. Having won
the toss and electing to bat, Cheshire recovered from 59-4 to
post a respectable 208-8 from their 50 overs. Hyde all-rounder
Daniel Berry was the pick of the batsman with a superb 70. Also
in the runs were Oxton's Simon Stokes (36), Mobberley's Nafees
Din (32) and 24 from Widnes wicketkeeper Ian Spencer. But Yorkshire,
having stumbled to 24-4, managed to hold on for a dramatic last-ball
victory. A fifth-wicket partnership of 145 laid the platform for
Yorkshire's victory, but Cheshire hit back and from 169-5 Yorkshire
stumbled for a second time, slipping to 187-8.
The home side needed 20 runs off 20 balls and a run-out in the 49th over saw them swaying at 205-9. However, an unbeaten 109 from England Under-19 player Greg Wood saw Yorkshire home. Upton's Lee Dixon (3-37) was the pick of Cheshire's bowlers, his quick wickets causing Yorkshire to worry at the end of their run-chase.
Cheshire: 208-8, 50 overs (D Berry 70, S Stokes 36, N Din 32,
